Tribes
PREFACE
The tauren are an ancient, proud race of hunters and warriors.
Resembling humanoid bovines, the tauren have lived off the lands
of Kalimdor for ages untold. Tribes were scattered and nomadic
throughout the lands of Kalimdor, with many settlements in the
Barrens, especially. Constantly harassed by the centaur, the
Bloodhoof tribe was on the verge of extinction until the orcish
Warchief Thrall stepped in to aid them in their journey to the
grasslands of Mulgore. Cairne Bloodhoof, the tribe's chieftain,
allied with Thrall's Horde, and later, united the tauren tribes
under a single government, centred in the newly established
tauren city of Thunder Bluff. The tauren stood alongside many of
the other races during the Battle of Mount Hyjal, where they
defeated the demonlord Archimonde and saved Azeroth from the
Burning Legion.
Amongst these races were the night elves of the northern forests
of Kalimdor, whose druidic magic was the stuff of legend. In
ancient times, the tauren themselves were druids, but forgot
much of the druidic demigod Cenarius' teachings over the
generations. Malfurion Stormrage, the leader of the night elven
druids, befriended the tauren Hamuul Runetotem, and taught him
the old ways of the druid. Hamuul in turn founded a study of
druidism in Thunder Bluff.
For the most part, the tauren tribes are amicable with one
another and share a deep respect and devotion to Cairne. This is
not true, however, of Magatha, leader of the Grimtotem tribe.
These tauren have always been aloof and ill-tempered, but since
Magatha's rise to power, they have become increasingly hostile
to their brethren, and Magatha remains the most vocal critic of
Cairne's politics.
