Rogue's Table

PREFACE

Of the more powerful political bodies in the world of Azeroth, most can be divided into either the Alliance or Horde. The Alliance, founded by the humans, also comprises the Ironforge dwarves, high elves, gnomes, night elves, and draenei. The Horde, led by the orcs, also contains the jungle trolls of the Darkspear tribe, the tauren, blood elves, and the undead Forsaken. These two factions battled with each other over two wars, but were forced to ally against the greater evil of the demons.

Since then, the two forces have been under an uneasy peace. While the political leaders within attempt to keep that peace, their peoples view their opposition with mistrust and, on occasion, open hostility. In some areas, these hostilities have escalated to open conflict, such as the battle between the Warsong orc clan and the night elven Silverwing Sentinels in the borderland known as Warsong Gulch. The goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel, however, have remained neutral, and are hospitable to either. Among one of the Cartel’s larger ports is Ratchet, located along the coast of the Barrens in Kalimdor.

Quel’Thalas, meanwhile, is the kingdom of the high elves. During the Third War, some high elves traveled abroad, many with Jaina Proudmoore across the sea. When the Scourge attacked the kingdom and left it in ruins, the survivors, under Prince Kael, called themselves “blood elves” in honour of their fallen brethren, and have since dedicated themselves to uncovering all the volatile, devastating magic they can.

These blood elves were further subdivided when Kael took a force west to combat the remains of the Scourge around Dalaran. During this time, he served under a racist general called Garithos, who had it in for the elves the moment they offered their services. He put them on a suicide mission, and then sentenced them to death when they accepted the assistance of Vashj and her naga to survive. With Vashj’s help, Kael and his forces in Dalaran managed to escape through a portal Outland - the shattered remains of the world once called Draenor.

The blood elves still in Quel’Thalas, upon hearing this, broke from the Alliance and recently allied with the Horde. They now struggle to travel to Outland, where they have been promised a new magical land to claim as their own. Until they make it, however, they have much to deal with in Azeroth. Silvermoon's secession has caused a great rift between blood elves and those who remain high elves.
