My Kind of Light
PREFACE
The Holy Light is the religion of the humans of Azeroth since
their rise to power thousands of years ago. The Light is a
philosophy of life that preaches interconnection between all
things in the universe. It is through the Light that the
paladins and many priests draw their fantastic powers.
Its practitioners are encouraged to find the good within
themselves and manifest it without. Their practice can generally
be summarized in the Three Virtues, and their Principles and
Lessons:
Respect
The principle of respect: Each thing has its own connection to
the world.
The lesson of respect: Do not harm what you would value if it
were yours.
Tenacity
The principle of tenacity: The world is too large to be remade
in a day.
The lesson of tenacity: Perseverance creates strength.
Compassion
The principle of compassion: You accomplish more brightening the
lives of others than your own.
The lesson of compassion: Give aid freely, but do not diminish
the one who receives it.
In making the world a happier place, one in turn becomes
happier. And if one despairs, then the rest of existence is
diminished.
The expansive kingdom of Arathor once comprised the entirety of
the humans of Azeroth. As it grew too vast, the empire
splintered into a number of smaller kingdoms. A group of
pilgrims even left for the distant south, and there, they
established the kingdom of Stormwind. Stormwind came under heavy
attack by the orcs and was all but destroyed, including its
centre of worship, Northshire Abbey. However, a number of
survivors fled north, warned the northern kingdoms of the orcs,
and after banding together, they eventually pushed the orcs back
into Stormwind and reclaimed it for themselves.
The Church of the Light in Azeroth had its greater leadership in
the north until its fall, and Stormwind City has now become the
centre of the Church. It is now led by Archbishop Benedictus,
who operates out of the Cathedral of Light in the city.
