The Giant's Table
PREFACE
Read
The Assassination of
Fenwick Thatros.
After
their rise to power in Lordaeron the Forsaken quickly realized that they
would need assistance fighting the Scourge, the Scarlet Crusade, and any
number of their other numerous enemies in the volatile Plaguelands.
Sylvanas Windrunner, the Forsaken's Banshee Queen, sent envoys and
entreaties to the Horde, requesting an alliance with them.
Thrall, Cairne Bloodhoof, and Vol'jin - the leaders of the Horde - were
suspicious of Sylvanas' intentions, but the orcs were painted into a
philosophical quandary. The orcs had been subjugated by the Burning
Legion and were used as pawns in their destructive crusade, much as the
Forsaken had been by their former Scourge masters. Urged by several
highly-respected shaman within the Horde, Thrall accepted their claims
and they entered into a wary alliance with them. Since then, the
Forsaken have traveled openly in Horde territory, and the other races of
the Horde are welcome in Forsaken lands.
This
has not come without consequences, however. The humans of the Alliance
saw the Forsaken as an occupying force in their former centre of power -
despite the fact that many of the Forsaken had, while living, inhabited
the area, and their entry into the Horde exacerbated growing tensions
with the Alliance, and many human leaders took the Forsaken's choice to
ally with the orcs - who had been enemies of theirs for over a
generation - justified their suspicions that the Forsaken could not be
trusted.
The
resulting schism has made it nearly impossible for the Forsaken to
reconnect with their living counterparts, or find any trace of their old
lives. Many have become embittered and some have abandoned their living
names to adopt new ones in death, in an effort to start anew.
Others have not.
