BIOGRAPHY
Luz grew up
surrounded by the finest engineers Undermine had to offer in the remote desert
outpost of Gadgetzan. He was one of the top students of Nixx Sprocketspring
until he left the renowned engineer and began to study on his own.
One of Luz's
earliest creations became the one that would be the most dear to him. Luz
created the robotic bombling Bam, who became his good friend and helper.
Though Luz's
adeptness at explosives was exceptional, he grew restless of the repetitive
processes of Gadgetzan and decided to strike out on his own across Azeroth,
hoping to learn more from its peoples. Hitching rides with caravans, Luz
traversed much of Kalimdor, tarrying at Ratchet, and eventually sailed east to
Booty Bay, where he begrudgingly learned much from Oglethorpe Obnoticus.
While in
Booty Bay, he fell into the gambling rings as so many have, and amassed a
substantial debt to "Sea Wolf" MacKinley, a notoriously brutal loan shark. When
MacKinley finally came to collect, Luz was unable to pay, and MacKinley demanded
that he turn over his engineering inventions, including Bam, as recompense. Luz
refused, and soon got wind that MacKinley was going to collect his debt one way
or another, so he gathered his things and fled to Stormwind. He was soon
informed by Renzik the Shiv that MacKinley had placed a bounty on his head.
Though Renzik had enough loyalty to a fellow goblin to pass it by, he knew that
there were many assassins in Stormwind who would not, and suggested that Luz
leave the city.
It was
during this time that Kazzak reopened the Dark Portal, and so Luz hitched a ride
on one of the many caravans heading to the Blasted Lands to reinforce the battle
with the demons who were constantly laying siege. In the short break between
waves of Legion forces, several expeditions were primed to traverse the Portal
to attempt to establish holdings in Outland.
One of these
was a coalition of goblins known as BOOM, the Braintrust of Orbital Operations
and Mechanics. Funded by the Steamwheedle Cartel, these intrepid goblins hoped
to exploit the brave new world on the other side. Impressed by Luz's ingenuity
and the skills demonstrated against the demons at the portal, they invited Luz
to join their expedition.
BOOM
attempted to gain a foothold throughout Outland, but the only efforts that
rewarded them were in the Netherstorm, where they established a headquarters
known as Area 52, which quickly flourished into a thriving trade post and
research station. With their foot in the door, Luz began to travel the wilds of
Outland, meeting with the native inhabitants; the draenei, the Mag'har, and
perhaps most notably the ethereal Consortium, and learning more from them of his
trade. Eventually, when his funds ran low, he returned to Area 52 and began
working on contract for BOOM. He befriended Papa Wheeler and helped him engineer
the X-52 Nether Rocket, a vessel Wheeler and his cohorts hoped to use to
traverse the Twisting Nether. For his assistance, Papa helped Luz build the X-51
Nether Rocket, whom Luz named Dorothy. Though Papa extended an invitation for
Luz to join BOOM, Luz declined, and instead focused on gaining capital to fund
his engineering. He and Bam began hunting demons, looking for marks of their
station, and returning them to the Aldor at Area 52 for gold.
On one such
patrol, however, Luz was accosted by the wrathguard Doreongo. Doreongo destroyed
Dorothy and fought Luz, eventually beating him. Afterward, however, Doreongo
consumed Luz's essence, gaining his skill and knowledge. He left Bam to run out
his clockwork gears in the wilds alone.

BAM
Bombling
Bam was one of Luz's earlier ingenious creations. Luz used a bomb casing
to house the modulators and gyrochronata and various other working parts
which allowed for capacity of thought, and then constructed around the
casing a framework which allowed him mobility, as well as two topaz
crystals which served as Bam's eyes. The entire affair, unfortunately,
could not last forever, and Luz was forced to adapt Bam's system to be
maintained by a periodic winding, as well as a gauge which indicated how
much energy remained. Bam was a little dim at first but quickly learned
as he went, and grew into quite the clever and occasionally witty little
robot. Bam acted as lab and field assistant to Luz through all his
journeys, and they became close friends. Though Bam fought as best he
could against Doreongo, the effort was not enough, and Doreongo consumed
Luz's essence before allowing Bam to run out his clockworks in the
Netherstorm. |

DOROTHY
X-51 Nether Rocket
The X-52 was a supposedly top secret rocket ship being built by the
Braintrust of Orbital Operations and Mechanics to explore the Twisting
Nether. For testing, however, smaller prototypes needed to be
constructed, and Luz assisted Papa Wheeler in this venture. After their
work was finished, Wheeler and Luz outfitted one of these prototypes
with a seat and navigational controls. Dorothy, as she came to be
lovingly known, was the first X-51 rocket to be used as a personal
transport. Though Dorothy had no brain or mind, to speak of, Luz, Bam,
and the Wheelers all agreed that she nevertheless had heart. Dorothy was
unfortunately destroyed during the fight with Doreongo, however she
paved the way for other X-51s that Wheeler fashioned for others. |
