BIOGRAPHY
Layla was
born in Southshore to refugees from Stormwind during the Second War. After the
kingdom was reclaimed, her family returned to Stormwind and Layla was largely
raised there. The Du Lacs hailed from a long line of warriors. Her father, and
later, sister, would often claim that they were an offshoot from the founding
lords of Stormwind, but that was likely a baseless boast.
Though her
sister Lyria flourished in the Stormwind military academy, Layla often fell
short, and lived mostly in Lyria's shadow. Layla leaned towards trickery and
manipulation, which often clashed with the straightforward training given by the
soldiers in Stormwind. She was on the verge of giving up altogether when she was
approached by a retainer of Lord Tony Romano. After arranging a meet with her,
he offered her the chance to train under him. She was to leave the academy and
would pose as Romano's servant. Though Layla was instructed to tell no one of
this arrangement, she disclosed it to Lyria in secret.
Layla had
found her calling. She excelled under Romano's tutelage and became one of his
most trusted spies. When her time with him was finished, she was secretly
inducted into SI:7. She was instructed to travel to Lordaeron and report to King
Terenas Menethil. She was one of three SI:7 agents in his service - a show of
camaraderie between SI:7 and the Lordaeron throne. Their relationship was
unofficial, however, as she was still to pose as a civilian. Information was
funneled to the crown by her handler, Oni'jus.
One of
Layla's early assignments had her stationed in Tarren Mill. Eventually, she
stumbled upon a suspicious man who, upon investigation, was revealed to be a
former Alterac nobleman - Alahar Vardus. When he detected her on his trail,
however, he attacked her. Though Layla lost an eye in the struggle, she defeated
and killed Alahar. She was commemorated for her efforts with a private dinner in
Lordaeron Capital, where Terenas revealed Layla's true role to his most trusted
friends and family, including his then teenage son, Arthas.
Layla
continued to serve Terenas for some years throughout Lordaeron. One of her
longer assignments was observing Baron Silverlaine, who had made some remarks
which incited a minor peasant uprising in Pyrewood Village. After Arthas went
mad, Layla was sent word from Oni'jus, and attempted to make it to the Capital
in time, but was too late to save Terenas. She began to wander the wilderness to
avoid the Scourge patrols, but was eventually happened upon by Arthas.
Arthas
recognized her from their meeting years before, and believed she was now working
for Uther. After a brief interrogation, he killed her.
After the
Forsaken came to power, Layla's remains were collected by one of the patrols and
transported to the Shadow Grave. Layla was revived as an undead. After she got
her bearings, she began to publicly identify herself as a rogue, and attempted
to forge ties with other notable rogues in the Forsaken. She was eventually
discovered by Mennet Carkad and he quickly brought her into the Deathstalkers.
Layla grew
to be one of the more reliable free-wheeling Deathstalkers in Carkad's regime.
She handled his assignments with brutal efficiency and had no patience for
dramatics and the flourishes many of her colleagues enjoyed. Of her more notable
successes was the murder of Fenwick Thatros, a high-ranking operative of the
Scourge in Silverpine Forest.

BROKENSTRIDE
Skeletal Horse
Brokenstride was one of the Royal Apothecary Society's early successes,
however due to an error in embalming, one of his hooved were warped and
rendered it unable to walk on. Zachariah Post was instructed to destroy
him, but hoping to make a quick buck, removed the hoof and replaced it
with a stone prosthetic. After Layla received a notable payoff for one
of her early assignments under Carkad, she bought Brokenstride from Post
at a discount. He has served as her faithful mount since. |

LYRIA
DU LAC
Human Warrior
Lyria Du Lac prospered where her sister did not. The academy did well by
her and she defended Stormwind from all manner of threats, within or
without. She was the only soul whom Layla told her secret to. After the
fall of Lordaeron, Lyria waited to hear word from Layla, but when months
passed without any, she concluded that she was lost. Since then, Lyria
has come to believe Stormwind as humanity's last bastion, and will
defend it to the death. She earns her way by training warriors in
Goldshire. |

FENWICK
THATROS
Scourge Warrior
Fenwick Thatros was once a cook in the inn at Ambermill when Layla was
posing as a scullery maid while she spied on Baron Silverlaine. The two
often met while picking up supplies, and after some months of courting
each other, they eventually engaged in a brief love affair, which was
cut short when Layla's mission in Silverlaine Keep ended. The two moved
on. Fenwick was killed during the Scourge invasion, and in time, rose
again as one of the Lich King's agents. His geographical knowledge of
Silverpine allowed him to become a key lieutenant of the Scourge forces.
He was put in charge of delivering corpses to Fenris Isle for use by
Ravenclaw. Mistaken by scouts as a more powerful captain, he was marked
for death by the Deathstalkers. Carkad put Layla on the case, and the
two met in battle. Layla eventually bested him. |
