BIOGRAPHY

Haiendrion was born to a family of modest fishermen as the Long Vigil drew to a close. The coastal town of Nendis was a mainstay of night elven fishermen, and they supplied the Sentinels with much of their food sources, since the Keepers and dryads were uncomfortable with hunting openly in Ashenvale. Haiendrion learned his family trade and became a successful fisherman.

By the grace of Elune, Nendis received only minor casualties during the Invasion of Kalimdor, and afterward its inhabitants joined their kinsmen in the slow process of rebuilding their homeland. Then the Betrayer came...

Illidan and his army of naga swept through Nendis, cutting down anyone who stood before them. Their vile magics burned whole buildings to cinders. Haiendrion was the only survivor of his family.

The few refugees from Nendis were placed in the care of a group of druids while they recovered, and Haiendrion became the ward of the druid Maldryn. Maldryn took a liking to the young elf almost immediately and saw in him a potential for the subtle art of druidism. Though Haiendrion had little invested in the Cenarion Circle and thought Malfurion Stormrage irresponsible for letting his brother escape to Outland, he felt he had not the heart to return to Nendis alone, and so be accepted Maldryn's offer to teach him. He joined him at his enclave in Astranaar.

Druidism is a slow art to learn, but Haiendrion proved a patient student, and his powers grew slowly but steadily over the next few years. A new force, however, was troubling Haiendrion. Since the massacre at Nendis, he was often haunted by his memories of that terrible night, and dreamed of it often. But he soon became aware of another vision of portent - of a woman battling countless shadows atop an otherworldly cliff.

As months wore on, this recurring dream would not subside, and Haiendrion eventually convinced Maldryn to accompany him to the Moonglade so they might speak with Remulos about the dream's significance. But the timing was poor. Fandral Staghelm's rise to power had created tensions within the Circle, and Remulos was usually occupied. They remained in the Moonglade for weeks, awaiting audience, until they were sought out by another Keeper of the Grove: Bandalar.

Bandalar had received strange messages from the green dragon Emeriss guiding him to Haiendrion. He revealed to the druids that he was investigating the growing Nightmare within the Emerald Dream and he suspected that the Haiendrion's dream was at the heart of the matter. After Maldryn gave his blessing, Bandalar removed him from Maldryn's service and took him into his own. He and his attendants then began to teach Haiendrion firsthand.

Haiendrion's druidic talents flourished under the tutelage of Bandalar's dryad Thelnylla, and Bandalar himself taught the young novice the art of alchemy, which he would put to use in this quest. Eventually, all was prepared, but Haiendrion and Thelnylla had to first acquire Norgannon's Tear, a powerful magical reagent atop Mazthoril. After the blue dragons let them pass, they found the Tear, but were attacked by the satyr Acherix. Though Thelnylla was killed, Haiendrion bested Acherix, and barely made it off the mountain alive. His exposure to Norgannon's Tear, however, remained a part of him forever.

With the Tear, they created a powerful potion of the drealmess sleep, which allowed Haiendrion to enter the Dream and find the woman. He encountered Vertiga Valerunner, but was attacked by the mad dryad Sindrathel. With the help of the young dragon Oneiriaz did he manage to escape the Dream, only to find Bandalar had died defending him. With Bandalar dead, his entourage abandoned Haiendrion, and he was forced to continue alone.

After conferring with Thyn'tel Bladeweaver, who told him how Vertiga had come to be there, they joined forces and comissioned the rogue Arch-Druid Renferal to assist them in contacting Oneiriaz and then freeing Vertiga from the Dream. Though successful, Sindrathel followed them out, and a battle ensued. Sindrathel's attacks were devastating, and in her weakened state, Vertiga was killed, though Sindrathel was killed herself by Thyn'tel. However, under Oneiriaz's suggestion, Haiendrion managed to tap into the primal energies of Norgannon's Tear and transformed himself into a mystical tree of life with amazing restorative powers. He revived Vertiga, and healed the injuries of his friends.

Though his insubordinate actions had him temporarily banished from the Moonglade, Haiendrion began to travel with Vertiga afterward.

FRIENDS AND FOES

SHY'VAXIN

Spotted Frostsabre

Shy'vaxin was a tenacious frostsabre who was partnered with the huntress Thyn'tel Bladeweaver. After years of fighting alongside Thyn'tel, she had her blessed by the Ancients so that she would not succumb to age. Since then, Sy'vaxin remained at Thyn'tel's side, through thick and thin. An injured leg prevented her from being there when Thyn'tel and Vertiga faced Sindrathel, but Shy'vaxin took a wounded Thyn'tel to Dor'danil to be healed. She was present, however, for Thyn'tel's second confrontation with Sindrathel, in which the frostsabre sustained notable injuries, and lost her eye. Afterwards, Thyn'tel returned to Darnassus and, since she had little use for Shy'vaxin, she allowed Haiendrion to borrow her. She has traveled with Vertiga and him since.

MALDRYN

Night Elf Druid

Maldryn slept in the Emerald Dream for much of the Long Vigil, and when he awoke, he found the world much changed from the Kalimdor he remembered. He began training druids in Astranaar, and when he cared for Haiendrion as he recovered from his wounds, he offered him a place in his study. When he accompanied Haiendrion to the Moonglade, Maldryn became convinced that the Circle was losing perspective. He believed that they should be bringing their healing powers to the far corners of the wounded world. He found a like-minded soul in Theridran, and after Haiendrion was removed from his tutelage, Theridran and Maldryn took an expedition to Stormwind, where they crafted a moon well within the city walls. He now trains druids there.

THELNYLLA

Dryad

Thelnylla was an ancient and friendly dryad protector of the snowswept forests of Winterspring. During the Long Vigil, she came to be part of Bandalar's entourage, and they traveled Kalimdor, aiding the night elves with both their restorative magics and their powerful combat skills. After the demonic invasion of Kalimdor, Thelnylla was one of only a handful of survivors in Bandalar's force, and she remained by his side. After Haiendrion joined them, Thelnylla became his guide, and taught him much in the way of the druid. She accompanied him to Mazthoril to parlay with the blue dragons, but died in a battle with Acherix atop the snowy mountain.

BANDALAR

Keeper of the Grove

The ancient son of Remulos, Bandalar was a mighty Keeper of the Grove who defended the forests of Kalimdor for ages untold. He kept a substantial entourage of druids, dryads, and sentinels, but after their brutal battles against Archimonde's forces during the Invasion of Kalimdor, only the druid Norrund Grovewalker and the dryads Eilassyn and Thelnylla survived. When Bandalar was contacted by Oneiriaz (disguised as Emeriss), he brought Haiendrion under his tutelage as he investigated this insidious Nightmare. When Haiendrion confronted Sindrathel within the Dream, however, she sent her shadow men to assault him, and Bandalar died defending him.

ONEIRIAZ

Green Dragon Whelpling

Oneiriaz was born within the Emerald Dream to the benevolent and powerful dragon Emeriss. He was only a few decades old when the Nightmare corrupted Emeriss, and most of his brood followed. Oneiriaz alone remained untouched, and as his family slipped further into madness, he knew he must save them. When he discovered Vertiga and Sindrathel, he decided that they would be his first crusade against the Nightmare. He posed as his father and sent a message to Bandalar, directing him to Haiendrion and, in turn, Vertiga. When Thelnylla died atop Mazthoril, Oneiriaz guided Haiendrion down the mountain and when Haiendrion entered the Dream and was found by Sindrathel, Oneiriaz battled the dryad to allow Haiendrion to escape. He was eventually contacted by Renferal, and they formed a plan together to distract Sindrathel long enough to pull Vertiga free. After they succeeded, however, the green dragons deduced that Oneiriaz had been touched by the Nightmare, and could not be allowed back into the Emerald Dream until that taint was cleaned from him. He began to assist Phantim in guarding the Bough Shadow.
