BIOGRAPHY
The Beltises
were a seafaring family of some renown, with a strong history in the navy of Kul
Tiras. Curtis was born into this family several years before the Second War, and
spent more of his youth on the sea than solid ground.
The Second War
orphaned a teenaged Curtis and his older sister Vanessa took him into her care.
As she moved from ship to ship throughout her career, Curtis remained at her
side. Though Vanessa usually arranged that he be a deckhand on whatever ship she
was serving with, she tended to use him more as a personal servant. Curtis grew
to despise the chain of command.
Two years after
the war, Vanessa managed to claim a ship of her own, the Horizon Scout.
She offered Curtis a position in her crew, but he caught her by surprise with
his refusal. He promptly ran off to become a pirate.
Most pirates
were born into the profession, and so Curtis' education was a rarity. This,
coupled with Curtis' seafaring experience and charming wit, allowed him to
quickly advance through the pirating circles of Azeroth, and he developed a
modest reputation.
After a few
years, he began his most successful posting aboard the Tidehunter's Prize,
captained by the gnome Stillwater. Using his parrot, Saltfeather, Curtis kept in
touch with Stillwater and coordinated their efforts from the mainland. During
this time, he also became engaged in a sordid love affair with Grace Allemoy,
another notorious pirate captain in Stranglethorn Vale. She courted a number of
suitors, but she favoured Curtis by far. This vexed one of his rivals, known as
"Pretty Boy" Duncan.
After meeting
with Grace, Curtis was cornered by Duncan and a mysterious companion. Duncan
began to duel him, but he was easily outmatched by Curtis. As their duel began
to go in his favour, Duncan's companion cast a spell on Curtis, drawing him into
a portal that sent him across the world.
Curtis found
himself in Desolace, a land he didn't know existed. He wandered aimlessly,
scrounging for food when he could, until nearly a year later, when he met
Lizzarik, an up-and-coming
goblin trader in Tanaris who mercifully spoke Common. Curtis began working for the
goblin until he got enough money to properly outfit himself, then left
northwards.
Eventually, he
came to Ratchet, where he learned much of what had transpired in his absence.
The demons had since invaded Azeroth, and more importantly, pirating in
Stranglethorn Vale had fallen almost entirely under the empire of Duke Falrevere
and his Bloodsail Buccaneers. "Pretty Boy" Duncan, Curtis discovered, was among
them. Luckily, since Jaina and Thrall had led their peoples to Kalimdor, most
goblins had acquainted themselves with their languages, and Curtis had a much
easier time.
His plan was
clear. He would return to Stranglethorn Vale and avenge himself on Duncan and
his sorceress. But to do that would mean war on the Bloodsail Buccaneers, and
Curtis couldn't do that alone. His only choice was to win over the Blackwater
Raiders, with whom he had earned a scathing reputation. His only means of
correcting that reputation was through bribery. Curtis wrangled a job as a
bruiser from Gazlowe, and has since served Ratchet dutifully, until he can earn
enough money to buy Revilgaz's good graces, and his revenge on "Pretty Boy"
Duncan.

GERALDINE
Pinto
Geraldine was from a noted stock of horse in Elwynn Forest, however she came
into the ownership of a nobleman who had no idea of her true value, and thought
the pinto breed an ugly one. He used her as a packhorse. Curtis, upon finding
her in such a condition, fell upon the nobleman, robbed him, and stole Geraldine
from him. Geraldine greatly appreciated being used as a mount rather than a
wagon, and she and Curtis forged an excellent rapport. When Curtis was
transported to Desolace, however, Duncan began using Geraldine as his own.
Duncan was a poor rider, however, and Geraldine had a hard time responding to
his commands. He, in turn, began whipping her and withholding food. |

SALTFEATHER
Hyacinth Macaw
The hyacinth macaws were considered by many pirates a badge of honour. Large,
intelligent, and difficult to catch, they became a rare and prized commodity in
Stranglethorn Vale. Saltfeather fell from his nest as a hatchling, and was found
and saved by a pirate who raised him as his companion. The pirate was soon
killed and Saltfeather stolen by his assassin, who was soon killed for
Saltfeather. Eventually, Saltfeather was usurped by Curtis. Curtis treated
Saltfeather well and the two got along swimmingly. Reports from Booty Bay
indicate that Saltfeather became something of a mascot for Duncan after he
banished Curtis. |

VIRIDIAN
THE SALTJAW
Saltjaw Tortoise
The saltjaw tortoises are loyal and dependable, but rarely used as mounts due to
their lack of speed. Lizzarik eventually acquired one. As Curtis' time with
Lizzarik drew to a close, he knew he would need a mode of transportation. A more
adequate mount was far too expensive for Curtis, and so in exchange for
performing a task for Lizzarik, the goblin gave him Viridian. Viridian made the
trip to Ratchet no faster, but perhaps more comfortable. |

"PRETTY
BOY"
DUNCAN
Human Buccaneer
The pirate known as "Pretty Boy" Duncan was seen as something of a joke by his
contemporaries. Prone to fits of seasickness and of little use in a fight,
Duncan instead got by on his looks, winning favour with lady pirates through
romance and flirting rather than any more applicable pirating skill. Grace
Allemoy the most powerful of such pirates, and when Duncan found her attentions
diverted to Curtis, he had him banished across the sea. Afterwards, he usurped
his animal companions and connived much of his fortune from Stillwater. When
Falrevere came to power, Duncan was quick to join the Bloodsail Buccaneers and
honed his skills as a knife-fighter. Among his more impressive victories was
defeating the renowned Blackwater Raider, Catelyn the Blade. |
