BIOGRAPHY

Ruth Meridian was pregnant with Agatha when her father left with Khadgar's expedition to Outland and did not return. Her mother died in childbirth, and Agatha was lucky to survive the ordeal herself. Now orphaned, she became a ward of Stormwind City, and was raised within the orphanage in the company of only too many other orphans.

At the age of thirteen, orphans were expected to find their own way and the orphanage, according to policy, was unable to house them further. Agatha was no exception. She was given a menial janitorial job at a tailoring shop but the pay was poor, and she had trouble making ends meet. She often was on the verge of starvation.

After a year of living in such squalor, she began dancing suggestively in return for money. This subsidized the job at the tailoring shop and she found her finances evening out. On top of all that, she found herself making others happy and enjoying herself while doing it. Eventually she left the tailor's and the exotic dancing became her primary income.

Four years later, Agatha enjoyed a life of modest luxury and some renown amongst the men of Stormwind, and she began to engage her audience in other activities. It took very little time for Agatha to abandon the dancing altogether, and she became one of Stormwind's most popular prostitutes. She was clever, and willing, and so took many precautions, particularly with her more famous clients.

Two years into her career as a prostitute, there was a public scandal involving the renowned weapon master, Woo Ping. Though he had been seeing Agatha for some time, they grew complacent with their security measures, and were spotted together by a former client of Agatha's, who quickly spread the news that she was engaging Master Ping. The damage to Woo Ping's reputation was minor, but the scandal gave Agatha a public face, and she was forced to deal with the accusing eyes of her fellow townsfolk.

Despite the ire of Stormwind, Agatha continued her work unabated. She entertained many clients of high standing within the community, including, rumour has it, Elling Trias, Dungar Longdrink, Renzik the Shiv, John Burnside, Demisette Cloyce, and Grimand Elmore. One of personal significance to her, however, was Brother Joshua.

During their meetings, Joshua often preached to Agatha of the Light, and the subject interested her without bounds. She began to practice its tenets and grew so devoted that she donated all her finances to the orphanage, and approached the Church in the hopes of becoming a priest of the Light.

High Priestess Laurena oversaw Agatha's initial interviews and was delighted. Though familiar with Agatha's reputation, Laurena saw her entrance into the Church as an example of how none are cast away. Agatha's preliminary training was exemplary, and she was entered into the Stormwind seminary to study.

When a courier delivering to Agatha discovered she was still using contraceptives, he reported his findings to Laurena. Laurena concluded that Agatha was now fornicating with other seminarians, and upon confronting Agatha, the young novice admitted to it, but named none of her partners. Laurena removed Agatha from the seminary and the training program.

Brother Joshua, however, was committed to Agatha's priesthood, and he introduced her to Father Gavin. Gavin was impressed at Agatha's tenacity and devotion, and began training her outside the Church. With his help, she was given to Nara Meideros to substitute for her seminary training. While working with Nara, she learned how to harness the restorative powers of night elven mooncloth and incorporated it into the skills she picked up at the tailor's shop.

After her work with Nara was complete, Gavin placed Agatha in a transitional diaconate in Darkshire. Though her diaconate did not have the approval of the Council, the people of Duskwood were eager for whatever help they could get, and asked no questions when Agatha arrived and began to ply her holy craft. Agatha soon earned a reputation as an affable, pleasant woman who could be a fierce protector and healer in times of battle. Though the darkness of Duskwood was overwhelming at times, Agatha found the resolve within herself to carry on.

When Gavin deemed she had fulfilled all the trials necessary for ordination, he recalled her to Stormwind to prepare for the ceremony. Unfortunately Madame Eva, who had befriended Agatha but was unaware that she operated outside the bounds of the church, sent her a congratulatory letter care of the church. Laurena eventually discovered it and through its contents, that Agatha was going to be ordained. She and Duthorian Rall tracked down Gavin, Joshua, and Agatha just as the ceremony was being completed.

Outraged, Laurena brought the matter before the Archbishop Benedictus. Though he sympathized with Gavin and Agatha, Benedictus was forced to rule in Laurena's favour. He could not officially recognize the ordination and so did not acknowledge Agatha as a priest through the Church. Out of protest and in anticipation of a motion for excommunication from Laurena, Gavin left the Church of his own accord.

Benedictus encouraged Agatha to continue her work as a priest, even though the Church could not sponsor or support her. She gathered her things and left Stormwind.

FRIENDS AND FOES

GREENWICH

White Kitten

Greenwich was born to a cat in Darkshire, part of a litter of eight, owned by the Carevin family. But times in Darkshire were hard. Resources were scarce and the town had a hard time supporting its human populace as it was. The Carevins decided to kill the kittens to avoid their growing into eight more mouths to feed. Calor tied them in a burlap sack and attempted to drown them in the town well, but their cries woke Agatha. She came down to investigate and was appalled. She beat Calor away and retrieved the kittens. Of the three who were still alive when she pulled them out, only one survived. She named him Greenwich, and buried his siblings that very night. She cared for him, feeding him a portion of her rations, and he became a loyal and loving companion to her.

BROTHER JOSHUA

Human Priest

Originally hailing from Lakeshire, Joshua entered the seminary as soon as he was of age. In his youth, he devoutly and unquestioningly obeyed all the precepts set down by the Catechism of Light. But as he grew older, he began to grow restless amongst the stuffy, overbearing morality of his superiors. Speaking his mind was dangerous business, however, for few agreed with his unconventional take on the Light. Sexually frustrated in the otherwise chaste Cathedral, he soon took to sneaking away from the grounds to indulge in the prostitutes of Old Town, and eventually came across Agatha, who he began to see regularly. On occasion, he would sermonize about the Light, and Agatha found the subject fascinating. After he arranged for her induction into the Church, he often visited her in the seminary to continue their affair. The scandal involving Gavin and Agatha threatened his stay at the Cathedral, but Gavin arranged for him to remain in exchange for his leaving without incident. Laurena remained vexed at Joshua, and kept him on a tight leash. He corresponded with Agatha during her travels nonetheless, and attempted to spread a more progressive ideal to the priests he trained.
